Documentary Work

Splore 2020

My first year documenting the incredible festival that is Splore.

This Is Us Documentary

Behind the scenes and still images from an important and moving series of short films documenting the lives of kiwi Muslims.

BLACK LIVES MATTER MARCH

A peaceful and powerful Black Lives Matter March For Solidarity in Auckland. See all the images from this emotion filled march in support for the Black Lives Matter Movement in the USA while highlighting our own injustices in Aotearoa.

EMPOWERING REFUGEES WITH SB OVERSEAS

In 2017 I traveled to Beirut, Lebanon to photograph the SB OverSeas education center. The NGO works with refugees and displaced people, the majority of which are women and children affected by the Palestinian and Syrian conflict and aims to provide them with education, aid and the empowerment needed to live independent lives.

Life in a Ghanian Orphanage

In 2013 I spent three months documenting the lives of 12 children in a small orphanage in the Volta region of Ghana. The resulting images capture the highs and lows of being a child growing up in a large family like any other.

WHAT DEFINES FEMININITY?

In this photojournalism series I aim to explore the definition of femininity. I spent time with drag queens at Auckland’s Caluzzi Cabaret Bar on Karangahape Road documenting the private process of man becoming woman. The work was later featured in a special print edition of The Vernacularist titled WAHINE-WOMAN.

PARIS 2015 ATTACKS

Two days after the November 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris I took my camera to the area of the atrocities to document the aftermath. I didn’t know what to expect as I made my way to Place de la Republique, I certainly wasn’t expecting such an outpouring of love along with the sorrow at this public gathering.

These images were later published on TV3’s 7pm news program in New Zealand.

MAASAI VILLAGE

While volunteering in Tanzania I was fortunate enough to be invited into a small village of the Maasai. This village was off the beaten track and not accessible to tourists and outsiders. The images I captured here represent their life of isolation and simplicity.

PARIS PRIDE

The 2017 Pride parade in Paris was a celebration of uniqueness, vibrancy, liberty, and love. These images highlight some of my favourite outfits and moments of the day.
