Te Ara
This shoot with Te Ara in Tairawhiti was truly something special. Te Ara and I had made contact over social media after sharing similar experiences dealing with PTSD after sexual assault. Te Ara had been having some trouble feeling connected to her body after the assault and an empowerment shoot was her way of reconnect to her body and soul. We spent a gorgeous afternoon on a beach in Gisborne, running around from sea to sand, getting the most incredible shots along the way. When Te Ara got her photos she said she had a “I can’t believe that’s me” moment. The images capture a proud, strong, brave, empowered wahine standing true to herself and comfortable within her body.
